“Our History, Their Future”
Forest Lake Area High School is fundraising for a new
competitive gym floor.
· The current floor is 36 years old. The life expectancy
of a normal wood floor system is said to be 40-50 years.
This is based on sanding and finishing a wood floor every
10 years.
· Floors can approximately be re-sanded 6-7 times total
during their lifetime. In the case of our floor it is too thin
in spots to be sanded and resurfaced.
· Because of previous water damage the floor is warped
in places; screws are used to hold it down. This is only a
short-term solution, and renovation is badly needed.
· The other factor is technology. Floors that were installed
30-40 years ago, like ours, do not have the performance
level of floors today.
